Introduction

WinISI is a computer software system which allows utility personnel to track Inservice Inspection (ISI) activities. It was designed specifically to relieve utility personnel of the necessity of manually tracking ISI examinations required by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section XI, "Rules for Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components" (the Code) and the Code of Federal Regulations, 10CFR50.

WinISI allows you to easily enter information pertaining to the different components that are found in both Pressurized Water Reactor and Boiling Water Reactor Nuclear Plants. When properly used, WinISI will satisfy the ISI documentation requirements of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for nuclear power plants. WinISI uses computerized database management techniques to efficiently document ISI examination data through inspection periods, intervals, and the life of the plant. This provides assurance that ISI related commitments are being met. WinISI can be used with very little previous computer training. It is fully interactive and uses easily accessed menus that allow data entry, display, review, modifications, deletions, and report generation.

Standard Modules

The following standard modules are provided in WinISI 2004...

• Inservice Inspection Plan & Results Module -- This module forms the core of WinISI.  It is used to maintain a database of plant components. Each component has its own "Plan Status Grid" which is used to schedule and track Inservice Inspections of that component over the life cycle of the unit.  This module also provides for the gathering of examination results (via data sheets) and the recording of those results.   NRC and in-house documentation of ISI planning and results are generated via this module.  Click here to read more about  the ISI Plan & Results module.

• NDE Examiner Certification Module --  This provides tool for tracking NDE Method Certifications for any number of examiners.  Included are tracking of eye exams, certification test dates and grades, hands-on-training (HoT), and PDI qualifications for UT.  An NDE Experience Log (time log), and a History Log is maintained for each examiner.  The module detects changes made to critical certification parameters (e.g. eye exams, HoT, etc.) and automatically posts History Log entries documenting these changes.  Scheduling and Qualification Status reports are provided.   The NDE Examiners database is linked with the Data Sheet Generation functions in the ISI Plan & Results module. • Equipment & Materials Module --  This module is used to maintain a database of the equipment and materials used for performing the various non-destructive examinations.  Items are categorized by user-defined "type-codes".  Standard material type-codes are pre-defined for Instruments, Transducers, Light Meters and Thermometers.  Pre-defined material type-codes include Cleaner, Couplant, Penetrant, Mag Powder, Mag Fluid and Developer.   The Equipment and Materials database is linked with the Data Sheet Generation functions in the ISI Plan & Results module. Key Features

Listed below are some of the key features of WinISI.  A detailed discussion of features can be found on each of the specific module pages referenced above.

• MS SQL Server or xBase "Back-Ends" -- WinISI 2004 can be configured to work with either "xBase"  or Microsoft SQL Server format databases.  The latter is recommended for Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN) deployment.  Other ADO-compatible "back-ends" can be configured at an additional cost.

• Supports MS Word Forms -- WinISI 2004 can work with your existing libraries of Microsoft Word forms (such as NDE Datasheets). It utilizes the OLE Automation features embedded in Windows to detect and "fill-in" form fields in existing Word documents.  This means that WinISI can automatically support changes or additions to your forms library.

• Integrated Report Designer --  A full-featured Report Designer is integrated into WinISI 2004.  The designer allows you to....

1. Use the Report Wizards and Drag-and-Drop tools to quickly produce layouts. Then refine the layouts using the MS Office style Report Designer.
2. Build complex reports using a full suite of components: Text, Lines, Shapes, Charts, Barcodes, Regions, and Subreports.
3. Elegantly model free-form reports, nested reports, side-by-side reports and drill-down reports.
4. Use the built-in "RAP" language to code complex report calculations and event-handlers.
5. Quickly switch between Design and Preview modes, allowing you to instantly view the finished report as you modify its design.

Security Features

Comprehensive User Access Control User access to various functions and windows in WinISI is controlled by a 128-bit encrypted table of password-validated Usernames.  Each Username can be assigned detailed and specific permissions.  The Username table is maintained through a standalone module (WinISI Access), which is separate from the main WinISI program. This module is protected by a special System Administrator password.  Increased security is achieved by making this module available only to specifically designated user(s). The image to the right shows the available permission settings for the ISI Plan & Results module.  Similar permission options are available for the other WinISI modules.
Program Inactivity Detection WinISI automatically checks for the lack of mouse movement or keyboard activity within its windows. If no activity is detected within a pre-set time limit, it will shut itself down.  Similar inactivity checking can be configured to post any records left in "edit" mode.
Hacker & Virus Protection The WinISI executable file (EXE) is stamped with a tamper-detection code. Each time the application is started, it checks the validity of this code. If the EXE has been altered by hacking or a virus, the dialog shown to the right is displayed and the program terminates.

System Requirements

WinISI 2004 requires the following minimal system configuration in order to run efficiently. Stated requirements are for a stand alone installation. For network installations, the workstation must meet all of the stated requirements with the exception of the hard drive space which would be provided by the network server. Stated printer requirements can either be met by locally-attached or network accessible devices.

• Microsoft Windows 2000 or later
• 128 MB RAM ( 256 MB recommended)
• At least 100MB hard drive space (10 MB for program, plus room for your database files)
• CD ROM Drive (for installation)
• SVGA video and monitor (1024 x 768 screen resolution suggested)

Support Services*

• Database Conversion: Where possible, Polaris Microsystems, LLC will convert your existing computer databases to work with WinISI 2004.
• Installation & Training: On-site installation of WinISI, along with your converted databases (if any) can be arranged. A one-day training informal training session is also available.
• Program Customization: Polaris Microsystems, LLC will quote pre-delivery customizations to WinISI's screens and reports to suite your plant's needs. 
• Maintenance Contracts: Yearly maintenance contracts are available, which provide your company with program patches, telephone support, and email support.
